Beautiful Book Award
A book about 1989 for teenage readers, balancing documentary weight with the energy and immediacy of a lived memory.
For the thirtieth anniversary of Hungary's regime change, authors who had been children or teenagers in 1989 were invited to write from personal memory.
The design needed to be accessible without simplifying the subject. Distressed typography, generous space and mixed-media illustration created a visual bridge between the period and the present.
The result received the Beautiful Hungarian Book Award in 2019.
